Debbie’s homeownership story
Meet Debbie, age 48, a first-time homeowner and Mum to Oakley age nine. Debbie achieved her dream of getting onto the property ladder thanks to Gleeson after renting an older home for as long as she could remember! Debbie fell in love with her stunning Gleeson home the moment she saw it and couldn’t be happier to have bought on her own and created the perfect space for her family.
We spoke to Debbie to find out more about her home buying journey.

Is this your first home? This is our first ever home, and I’m so proud that I’ve bought it on my own. I thought that it might be difficult with me being on my own with a young son, but I managed to save a deposit over a few years which made securing my Gleeson home so much easier. I work in the property industry and owning my own home has always been my number one goal, renting is great but having your name on the mortgage is the best feeling in the world. Plus, my Gleeson home is so affordable, I’m paying a similar amount to what I paid for my rented home, but it’s actually mine!
Why did you choose to buy with Gleeson? I 100% wanted to own a new build. I liked the idea that I was the first person to live there; everything was brand new and fresh; a blank canvas that I could decorate however I pleased! I simply felt that a Gleeson home would be the perfect match for Oakley and I after viewing the show homes. The show homes are so inspiring and I loved seeing how they were decorated, they gave me so many tips and tricks.
Why did you choose to buy new? I chose a new build because older homes often require a significant amount of work! With Gleeson, everything is new, the appliances have never been used before and the walls are white and fresh. This meant I could personalise my home and adapt it to be decorated to mine and Oakley’s taste straight away instead of spending time and money altering someone else’s previous choices.
How was the process of buying your new home? From reserving to moving in, my home buying journey was brilliant. I was informed of updates every step of the way and found the Gleeson team to be extremely helpful! It wasn't what we expected, but it was so stress-free. our Sales Executive, was extremely helpful and friendly; she was on hand to answer all of my questions!
What do you love the most about your home? I love the fact that it's a blank canvas and I absolutely love how light and airy my house is and how much natural light it receives. My home is spacious too, which is something I really wanted in our new house and I’ve got good storage space, especially the cupboard in the Tyrone kitchen, which is my godsend! My kitchen has to be my favourite room because I adore how big it is. It has a contemporary dining area with a window enabling natural light to shine in, it’s a great place for Oakley and I to spend some quality time together as a family.
My garden is great too! It's a large space with a patio which is ideal for Oakley and his friends, we have loved spending time in it throughout the summer.
How has life changed since moving into your home? I'm so much happier now that I've purchased my Gleeson home. I enjoy spending time at home after work and on weekends, especially since it is my first home; it feels great to know it's mine.
We always say hello to our neighbours when we pass by and it's great to meet new people on the development and offer assistance if needed. It's a very peaceful and quiet area, and I love that we are never disturbed. I would recommend buying with Gleeson to anyone looking for their first home.
